Assignment #3: Data Update 2

Assignment #3: Data Update 2

Lead

Tuition fees for Canadian undergraduate within Canada that have become more expensive over the time and these provinces are surprisingly cheapest.

Excel Workbook Link and Explanation

My spreadsheet will allow you to access information about the tuition fees changes over the past five years in different provinces. Nova Scotia has the highest tuition fees in the most recent year and it has seen the biggest increase in tuition fees from 2015 to 2020. Also, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Yukon are the top three provinces with the cheapest tuition fees. The information I find most interesting is that in Ontario, tuition fees have decrease by 9.9 per cent this year for undergraduate students, but Ontario is still in top three provinces which has the most expensive tuition fees.

News Story/ Study Link and Brief Summary

This article includes similar information I have provided to you with in my update.
In Ontario, tuition fees have decreased by a 9.9 per cent this year while Yukon have increased of up to 8.5 per cent for Canadian undergraduate. However, despite the most percentage increased in tuition fees, Ontario is being one of most expensive for tuition and Yukon remains one of the cheapest places to be in university in Canada.
Compare to the fees for similar business courses, the average annual cost in Ontario is a whopping $9,503 while the average annual cost in Yukon is a $3,810. Also, Alberta is the only that saw no change to their tuition fees for undergraduate students in recent years. Most of provinces are seeing increase of at least 2 per cent.

  1. Hi Joanna, I really like how your data slice is very easy to read and provides a percentage which easily shows the changes from 2015/2016 to 2019/2020. For the reader, they can simply skim over to that column to see the difference. However, I noticed that there was an error in that column for Yukon and there is no percentage shown (it just says #DIV/0!) .
